The mature-age bar in Cologne

The name of the beer is Kölsch. The name of the bar is My Lord. Another Kölsch for you, my lord? They’re relatively cheap, so why not knock back a few while taking in the nice scenery around you?

The bar is well located, just a short walk from the Cologne cathedral (one of the few impressive sights in the city) which is right next to the main train station – as shown in the map below.

There is also a bears bar basically next door, more mixed-age bars along the Pipinstraße and cruising bars nearby, as well as the Vulcanus sauna at the back of the same block. But if you want a bar for mature-age men, this ought to be at the top of your list.

The owner of the bar, Uli, is a nice enough guy, and speaks very good English! In contrast, most of the clientele probably won’t speak English, though if you can content yourself with the exceptions to the rule, and the observations of the quite tight-knit community mingling and talking in German together, then you might still have a pleasant time!

The bar opens at 5 p.m. on Fridays through to Mondays. Most people start rolling in at about 8 p.m, and it can get quite full. If you want to be really culturally adventurous and try a dish of raw pork meat on bread with a couple rings of onion on it called Mett (I haven’t braved it yet) – Uli serves it on Mondays.

Consider this place recommended, and if you find yourself in Cologne, go there and have a great time! If you have recollections you’d like to leave in the comments below, feel free to do so!
